The Column of Marcus Aurelius Antoninus was erected A.P. 174, and is of Carrara marble. It is mainly a copy of the Pillar of Trojan. The reliefs on it relate events of the Marcomannic war. The statue of St. Paul, which crowns the column, was put there in 1589 by Sixtus V. The statue is about 100 feet from the ground.
