Additional Details:
Pike's Peak is one of the tallest Peaks of the Rocky Mountains and lies 75 miles south of Denver. Was discovered in 1806 by Gen. Pike, U. S. A., after whom it was named. It commands a view of about 100 miles radius of a rocky mountainous country, containing many lakes and the sources of four great rivers. Near the summit of the mountain the Government has established an important high level observatory for the benefit of meterology and astronomy, In recent years a railroad has been built to convey passengers to the summit although quite a few successful attempts have been made to climb to the peak.
