The Old Tennent Presbyterian Church is located
about three miles southeast of Englishtown and
three miles from Freehold. It is the most celebrated
and historic House of Worship in Monmouth County
because of its Revolutionary Associations. The
church was built about 1750 and was first known
; as the Old Scot's Church and afterwards was known
as Freehold Church. In 1859 it was enrolled in
the lists of the General Assembly as the TENNENT
CHURCH in memory of John Tennent and his
brother William Tennent, who had been pastors.
The monument in the foreground has been
erected lately in honor of THE SOLDIERS AND
SAILORS OF MONMOUTH COUNTY WHO GAVE
THEIR LIVES IN THE WORLD WAR.
