Rich in the lore of days gone by, New Mexico boasts many unusual and interesting attractions. Outstanding is this most unusual and authentic old Indian trading post. It is here at the Santo Domingo Indian Trading Post that the present waits for the past while activity at the post goes on as it has for many, many years. The nearby Indians still bring in their corn, wheat, jewelry, chilis and beadwork and wampum in exchange for good, clothing and other essentials of life. Here such a deal has just taken place with Trader Fred. The staples having a set value, the bargaining centered around establishing the value of the wampum and jewelry, the value of which is governed by the quality, amount on hand, and the length of the wampum strings. Supplies are then purchased to that extent and are chosen according to need and desire.
