SCHENECTADY, a prosperous industrial city of about
100,000 population, was founded by Arendt Van Curler in
1661 when he, with a small party of Dutch settlers came
from Albany and purchased 128 square miles from the
Indians. In 1798 Schenectady was incorporated as a city.
