Additional Details:
An Army experiment to use camels in the deserts of the southwestern United States brought Hadji Ali (Hi Jolly) from Syria to Arizona as a camel driver. The camels did not tolerate the country and the experiment failed, but Hi Jolly remained to serve as a faithful Army scout. He died at Quartzsite, December 16, 1902.
