Franz Huning came to America a boy. The gold
excitement of '49 started him for California. landing in
Albuquerque in 1856. The attractions and opportunities
of the Rio Grande held him. He started one of the first
large general stores of Old Albuquerque, Huning Castle
was built in 1883. modeled from the builder's memory of
an old castle on the Rhine. It is now the private home of
his son, Arno Huning.
