Very little is known of the early history of the Navajo. He seems of Athabascan stock and closely related to a number of tribes dwelling along the banks of the Mackenzie River in the North. The Navajo, since immigrating to the Southwest,by contact with other tribes, has absorbed some of their characteristics. Their principal art is blanket weaving, which they learned from Pueblo women captured in war. They are also famous silversmiths.
