CLINCH RIVER BREEDER REACTOR PLANT PROJECT
This is the artist's rendering of the Clinch River Breeder Reactor
Plant - the nation's first large-scale breeder demonstration plant.
A breeder is a nuclear power plant that produces more fuel than it
uses as it generates electricity. The Clinch River Plant is to be built
on a site on the Clinch River in Oak Ridge, TN. With licensing
approval, actual site work could begin by 1983. Although it's not a
commercial-sized plant, it could start producing electricity for
200,000 residents in the Tennessee Valley Service Area by 1989.
