THIS CONSTRUCTION began in 1863 and
was first used for a conference of the Church
in 1867. The roof, the principal portion of the
building, rests upon 44 sandstone buttresses
3 feet thick, 14 to 20 feet high and 9 feet
wide. The arches are of a lattice truss con
struction, securely fastened, where necessary,
with cowhide and wooden pegs. The Taber-
nacle is 250 feet long. 150 feet wide, and 80
feet high, and seats approximately 8,000
people.
