OLD STATE HOUSE OF MASSACHUSETTS.
Erected in 1713. (So substantial that it may stand for another two hundred
years.) Here John Adams, Otis, Quincy, Warren, Cushing, Hancock and
other patriots made the first opposition to royal authority. In 1770 the "Bos-
ton Massacre" took place in front of the building. From this balcony Wash-
ington reviewed his troops after British evacuation, and from here the
Declaration of Independence was read to the Bostonians.
