BELL TOWER, Placerville, Calif.
Bell Tower area first known as the "Plaza". Wooden
tower at the site of present steel structure was
topped by bell shipped around Horn in 1865 from
Boston. Used mainly as fire alarm. Also tolled at
close of Franco-Prussian war. For number of years
after World War One it tolled the opening of
Armistice Day service. Bell now in yoke at Post
Office park on Bedford Ave.
