In its joys and momentary griefs the Indian
child varies little from its white cousin.
responsibilities of the girl children begin early;
they are nursemaids to their younger brothers
and sisters before the white child has learned to
dress. The Indian boys, however, have rather an
easy time of it, their parents rarely inflicting
punishment except in certain ceremonials.
