This picturesque octagonal building on the
south side of the Square facing Shirley Street
which was formerly the Prison has been used
as a Public Library, Reading Room and Mu-
seum since 1879. The library contains the old
newspaper files of the Colony and a very
valuable collection of books. The Reading
Room is supplied with the leading magazines
i and newspapers.
