"Los Portales” has figured in New Mexico History
since the 1880's when "Billy The Kid" was sup-
posed to have used the portales Spring as a
camp site for operations in the territory. Portales
is the home of Eastern New Mexico University
and has a population of over 10,000. It is an
important cattle and dairy center of the state.
