While trying to move a house across the lake on the ice,
it slipped off the skids; night was coming on and the men
expected to complete their task the next day, but during the
night a warm rain caused the corner of the house to sink
beyond recovery. Some furniture was removed. When the
ice melted, the house, stove and piano sank to the bottom
of the lake. The fishermen claim that they heard the mer-
maids play on the piano.
