THE LINCOLN OR EMANCIPATION
MONUMENT in Lincoln Park, was erected at a cost of
$17,000 from the contributions of colored freedmen; the first
donation was from Charlotte Scott, a freedwoman of Virginia, -
her first earnings after emerging from slavery, and the statue
was erected at her suggestion. It is twelve feet high and
was cast in Munich.
