BUCKINGHAM PALACE: Built originally by the Duke
of Buckingham, Buckingham Palace was purchased
from him in 1762 by George III, who moved there from
St. James's Palace. Fronting the palace is The Queen
Victoria Memorial, the work of Sir Thomas Brock. The
13 feet high figure of the great Queen, faces the Mall, the
broad processional way which leads to Trafalgar Square.
