THE WORLD FAMOUS LOCKS AT SAULT STE. MARIE, MICH.
The world famous locks at Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., which at the
close of 1941 season have broken all records for freight tonnage
passed to and from Lake Superior-111,121,684 tons. These locks
overcome the rushing St. Mary's Falls (Sault Rapids) with a drop
of twenty feet and send the multitude of lake freighters and pas-
senger ships quietly and smoothly on their way to all lake ports
on the Great Lakes and Atlantic Ocean with greater tonnage
than all other canals of the world combined.
