Going west from Oakland, Md. on U.S. Rt. 219, after driving 13 miles
through beautiful farming section you enter W. Va. You see the Allegheny
Mtns. in the distance and feel the tang of cool atmosphere. One mile from
here you come to a small village known as Silver Lake, there you can enjoy a
nice visit to the Smallest Church and Mailing Office in 48 states.
Continue 9 miles on 219 to Jct. 219 & Rt. 32 in Thomas, W. Va. once a large
coal mining center, now known as BLACK DIAMOND JUNCTION. After
the mines were depleted and large portion of population left, it is still a good
shopping center, with many nice stores, a Bank, Theatre, Motel and three
churches.
Two miles further on Rt. 32 you come to Davis, turn right on the first hard
surface road it will take you to Blackwater Falls State Park; 50 room lodge &
large dining room; 25 modern cottages; Blackwater Falls & Canyon; With
camping facilities & amusements. Then reverse back to Davis an ideal spot
for your vacation; 4 Motels; 4 Restaurants; Super Market; Museum & 4
churches.
Continue on Rt. 32 for 32 miles to Canaan Heights overlooking that beauti-
ful Canaan where many thousands come to see and enjoy all the year round
sports; Skiing; Golf; Hunting & Fishing. (Large Lodge; Dam; Homes & Rest-
aurants on agenda for building in near future.)
