SALMON WEIR BRIDGE, GALWAY. The short River Corrib which
flows through Galway City provides salmon with their only
means of access to 1,200 square miles of lakes, and in season
they can be seen beneath the Salmon Weir Bridge in their
thousands, resting before the journey upstream. Galway is one
of the most fascinating of Irish cities, gateway between the
Old World and the New. Beyond lies the remotely beautiful
region of Connemara, which the modern world has hardly
touched.
