Upper reservoir is 2.2 miles long, holds 27 billion gallons of water. UPPER LEFT PHOTO Spiral cases encircle the six largest pump-turbine motor-generators ever built to produce 1,872,000 kilowatts. Each turbine weighs 330 tons. UPPER RIGHT PHOTO Slope pavers, made in Germany, are used to line inside of dike with 500,000 tons of asphaltic concrete and 700,000 tons of crushed stone. LOWER LEFT PHOTO Penstocks convey waters from upper reservoir to six turbine-generators in powerhouse. Steel pipes are each 28 feet in diameter, 1,300 feet long.
