he Wash House, a separate unit of the Sutter Creek Inn, was built in
the 1880's. The household washing and ironing were done in
the lower portion. The room once contained a large black iron wood-burning
stove where clothes were boiled in big tubs. During the winter,
clothes were hung on wooden racks to dry at the other end of the room.
The second story was used by a seamstress for mending and
dressmaking. The building has been remodeled into two
apartments, one with a fireplace.
