In its Old Senate chamber the Continental Congress received George Washington's resignation as Commander in Chief; ratified the Treaty of Paris ending the Revolution; appointed Thomas Jefferson plenipotentiary abroad. In the same room, in 1786, the first constitutional Convention was held. chamber arranged today as it was when Washington resigned.
