The foundation of the original church was laid on May 13, 1669. In 1729 the present brick church was erected on the same site. It was the scene of George Whitefield's Preaching and Election sermons of 150 years, and of impassioned appeals of patriotic leaders before the outbreak of the revolution. Became a riding school for the British during the siege. Faneuil Hall, Boston used principally for public meetings at the time of the revolution and known as the "Cradle of American Liberty." Bunker Hill Monument. Built to commemorate the battle of Bunker Hill. It was the scene of the first hard-fought battle of the American Revolution, June 17, 1775. It is made of granite and is 221 feet high.
