Additional Details:
The convention that made application for California to be admitted into the Union and drafted her first Constitution, met here. Built in 1849 by the Rev. Walter Colton, the alcalde of Monterey. Much of the early history of the state is associated with Colton Hall. It is now the city Hall of Monterey. It faces Pacific Street between Madison and JEfferson Streets. Just behind Colton Hall is the home of Governor Alvarado, the most prominent of the Mexican governors in Monterey
