Additional Details:
The Old Mission at Socorro, NM has much historic legend and tradition from the offer of one million dollars reward for the return of the solid silver Communion rail of the original church built in 1626 - and thought to have been buried during the Indian Rebellion of 1680. And, in addition to being a religious edifice, all deeds to land in Socorro read: "Del centro de la iglesia", (from the center of the church). Built originally as Nuestra Senora de Socorro by Friar A. Benevides in 1626. One of the oldest churches on the North American Continent and the second oldest mission in New Mexico
