Height 252 Feet, Cost $90,000.00 The Pilgrim Memorial Monument which stands upon Town Hill. Provincetown, Mass., and which is a landmark for many miles around, is erected to commemorate the landing of the pilgrims at Cape Cod Nov. 11th 1620, their anchoring in this harbor; the adoption in the cabin of the Mayflower, on the day of the arival, of the Compact of the Government, the first charter of deomcratic governement in the world's history; the birth here of Peregrine White, the first white child born in New England; the death of Dorothy Bradford, the wife of Wm. Bradford, afterward Governor of Plymouth; the explorations in such of a place for permanent colonizations; and the entire train of events which preceded the settlement of Plymouth. |
