HISTORIC LONG ISLAND: SHINNECOCK CANAL
A picturesque inland waterway connecting Shinnecock and
Peconic Bays, used extensively by sea-going craft of all descrip-
tions. Here, too, is Canoe Place, used by the Indians for trans-
porting their canoes from one bay to the other.
