This aerial view shows downtown Providence, the Fox
Point hurricane barrier and interstate route 195 cross-
ing the Providence River. The barrier with gates that
can be closed during storms, was built after 1954
hurricane Carol inundated the city causing damage in
the millions. The dome of the state capitol building can
be seen top center.
