Additional Details:
Immanuel Church was founded in 1689 and was the first church of the English Parish in Delaware. The church building was started in 1703 and about 1820 an addition was added. In the church yard cemetery are the graves of Governor Gunning Bedford, George Read, signer of the Declaration of Independence, and other prominent people. The Academy Building, on the left, was built in 1798 and has been a private school or public school since being built. It is now used by the church for community use
