HEADQUARTERS.
During the battle of Missionary
Ridge 1853. The place where Gen.
Bragg, one of the Confederate
leaders, had his headquarters and
from which he viewed the battle
of Missionary Ridge, in Novem-
ber, 1863, is marked by a steel ob-
servatory tower. The headquarters
were in a small house on the sum-
z mit of the ridge, directly in front
of Orchard Knob. Here is also
located the Illinois State Monu-
ment.
