The Island contains 702 acres and is entirely covered with one of the most beautiful parks in the United States, having some 21 miles of Macadam Roads, a magnificent Casino, Pavillions, Boat Houses, Aquarium, Horticultural Hall and Zoological Gardens. The Island was purchased by Detroit in 1879. Since then $1.600,000 has been expended in beautifying it. |
