Hiwassee Dam and Lake

| Hiwassee Dam, built by the Tennessee Valley Authority, is located on the Hiwassee River in Western North Carolina. The lake covers 6,280 acres and the dam itself is 1,287 feet long and 307 feet high, and its reservoir area reaches 22 miles upstream to the town of Murphy, N. C. Clousure of the dam was effected and storage of water begun in February, 1940. |
