Stratford Hall was built more than 200 years ago by Col. Thomas Lee, one of the most prominent Virginians of his day, and he lived there until his death in 1750. Here were born four of his eight sons, two of whom, Richard Henery Lee and Francis Lightfoot Lee, were signers of the Declaration of Independence. Robert E. Lee of the sixth generation of the family was born here in 1807
