Additional Details:
The 57-foot high cross in San Francisco's famous Park was erected to commemorate the first church services held in the English language, by the chaplain of Sir Francis Drake, in 1579. The actual services were held some twenty miles north of San Francisco on the Coast, but the monument was erected in Golden Gate Park
