Aerial view of "The deepest dam in the word." Located on the Colorado River between Needles and Blythe, California, and 15 miles north of Parker, Arizona, two-thirds of its structural height is below the river bed. Two hundred thirty-five feet were excavated. Only 85 feet of its bulk protrudes above the river bad. The super-structure rises another 63 feet above the roadway that crosses the top. Havasu Lake backs up behind the dam for 45 miles and covers over 25,000 acres. Parker Dam's main purpose is to provide a forebay and desilting basin for the 242 mile Colorado River aqueduct which delivers water to the coastal area of Southern California
