High Bridge
Additional Details:
High Bridge has spanned the Harlem River since 1841 from 175th Street and Amsterdam Avenue to the Bronx Borough. It carries the old Croton Aqueduct in cast iron pipes enclosed in brick masonry, and rests upon thirteen solid granite piers, the only solid stone bridge touching Man hattan Island. The beauty of its lines has prevented its removal, although its piers are an obstruction to the free movement of great ships in the Harlem River |
