| Following World War 1, veterams of that conflict gathered and formed the American Legion. The first charter was issued June 9th, 1919 to the American Legion Post # 1 which meets in these quarters in New Bedford, Massachusetts. In September of the same year Congress formally recognized the new organization and granted it a national charter. |
