The Collapsed North Face Of Mt. St. Helens
Additional Details:
The collapsed north face of Mt. St. Helens after the major eruption of May 18,1980. The first oozing of lava from the dome inside the crater began in February 1983. At that time the dome was estimated 700 ft. high,2,000 ft. long and 1,800 ft. wide. A new lobe on the dome began to form with lava oozing from a hole on the east side of the new lobe. The hole was caused by two small explosions that sent columns of steam and ash 6,000 feet into the sky. |
