The Hot Springs Ostrich Farm is a point of interest to thousands of visitors. It is at the end of the Whittington Avenue Car line, where a large number of ostriches are exhibited for a small fee. They are of all sized from incubator "babies" to full-grown birds, the latter being valued at $250.00. to $500.00. They are plucked every nine months. They lay from 15 to 20 eggs a season; the eggs take from 42 to 44 days to hatch, weigh from 3 to 5 lbs. each, and are worth $10.00 a piece. the average life of an ostrich is 70 years, although some live to be 120 or 140 years old. |
