Located ten miles from Charleston, reached by the
new Ashley River Bridge and is one of the finest
bathing beaches in America. In the 18th Century,
Folly Island was a rendezvous for pirates, who rav-
aged this coast, and in the war between the States,
it played an important part in the efforts by the
Federal Troops to capture Charleston.
