The Washington Oak, in Gaylordsville, Conn., is now maintained as a Revolutionary landmark by the D. A. R. According to records, on Sept. 20, 1780, Gen. Washington and his staff stopped here to rest and hold a conference. They were enroute from Newburgh, N. Y. to Hartford, to meet with the French Court de Rochambeau to enlist the aid of the French.
