Additional Details:
This monument was built over the grove of an Arabian who served this country for some 36 years. Hadji Ali, called Hi Jolly, was brought into this country to look after 75 camels used by the army in the southwest. The experiment failed because the sand was coarse and cut the camel's feet. The horse soldiers had no use for the beasts as they often When the railroad pushed west the Camel Corps turned loose their animals around 1865. Hi Jolly stayed with the army as a trusted scout, later he turned to mining and prospecting. When he died in 1902 at the age of 74 he had no worldly goods but he was rich in the knowledge that he left this world better than when he found it... M.P.
