The Chickamauga Dam was started in 1936 and com-
pleted in 1940 at a cost of $38,700,000. It is one of a
series of dams built by the T. V. A. for navigation, flood
control
and production of electric power on the Tennessee
River. It is 129 ft. high and 5794 ft, long with a reservoir
area of 37,200 acres extending 59 miles upstream.
