White hunters, Indians and wolves wiped out the great herds of buffalo, which roamed the ranges before and during the time the Northern Pacific Railway was building. A few survivors were brought to Yellowstone Park for protection; others to the U. S. Biological l ranch in western Montana. Today a thousand buffalo thunder over the hills of these two reserves and the herd are rapidly multiplying. The American bison is saved. The photograph reproduced on this card was made by Huffman, near Miles City. 50 years ago.
