Federal gunners used it as a point of aim during bombardment of 1863 and their shells landing in and around the church destroyed part of this beautiful landmark, Washington, Lee, La Fayette and other notables have worshipped here.

This historic Colonial Church was built between 1769 and 1774. George Washington of Mount Vernon and George Mason of Gunston Hall, both vestrymen for many years, were members of the Building Committee. The ground plans and elevation were drawn by Washington.

The corner-stone of this of this church was laid in 1752. and first used for worship in 1761. In 1764 the famous bells and clock were imported from England. And the organ in 1768. part of which is incorporated in the present organ in the church. The bells were seized by Major Traille, as a perquisite of war, and shipped and sold in England, where they were purchased by a former Charleston Merchant, and shipped back again. This is a view looking down Meeting Street. towards the Ashley River.

While journeying through the snow-covered countryside on the outskirts of Frankenmuth, one may come to pass over the "Old Black Bridge" as Frankenmuthers refer to it. On the picture, this nostalgic construction from yesteryear creates a unique frame for St. Lorenz Lutheran Church, oldest Lutheran Church in Saginaw Valley, founded in 1845. Church steeple in 168 high, the cross an additional 54 inches. At night entire apparatus is lighted, which further enhances the view.
