Founded 1670, the present edifice is the third building, erected 1835-8. Corinthian columns after the style of St. Martin's in the field, London, dominate this beautiful interior. The arches, springing longitudinally from the square of cornice above each column, rise at their crown to a level of 36 feet and are adorned with cherub's head and wings in stucco; and between the shoulders of the acanthus ornamentation. Altar silver, some older than the discovery of America, is used in the church on special occasions.

Dating back to 1681, this pure Gothic edifice takes pride in the distinction of being the only French Protestant church in America which adheres to the exact form of the Huguenot worship and uses the original liturgy. This is the third church on this site with the present structure being remodeled in 1845. White marble tablets adorn the interior walls in memory of the first Huguenot emigrants to America.

Edgefield Methodism was founded about 1820 at Pottersville, one mile north of the present city limits. The property on which the church now stands was deeded in 1841 by the Rev. Joseph Moore to nine trustees. A potrait of Rev. Moore, prepared by Edward Deciliux, hangs in the church. The cornerstone of the present church was laid on May 26, 1891.

Description:
Organized in 1805, the present church grew from the old Levels Baptist Church. The Aiken Baptist Church was built on this site in 1836 and burned in 1878. Another building was completed in 1878 and yet another dedicated in 1919. Present colonial style building was completed in 1958 at a cost of nearly one half million with a seating capacity of 1400.

Description:
St. James' Parish, Goose Creek, was established in 1706 and the building was in 1719. The only church not profaned by the British in the Revolutionary War, possibly because the Royal Arms were allowed to remain over the altar. The Episcopal Church is architecturally one of the finest in the area.

Description:
Built 1770-3 and named for the patron saint of Wales. Used by the British during the Revolution as a smallpox hospital; 50 who died here are buried in one grave in the shady yard. Many great South Carolinians are buried here including James H. Thornwell and Bishop Alexander Gregg

Description:
One of many old churches on historic Edisto Island is this beautiful Presbyterian Church that was organized around 1710. Present building, erected in 1831, survived the Civil War although robbed of its contents. "Tokens" were formerly used for admission to the Sacrament off the Lord's Supper. Bags on long handles are still in use for taking the offerings.

Organized in 1957, the present sanctuary was completed in 1965. The church has grown from a small group of worshipers who used the Chapel on Honey Horn Plantation from 1953-57. The Fellowship Hall, photographed, will serve as the sanctuary until the permanent sanctuary is built.

This magnificent church was designed in 1820 by Robert Mills and replaced the old meeting house that dated from 1774. The monument was dedicated by La Fayette in 1825 and stands where Baron Decal, who commanded the American Army in the South in the Revolutionary War, lies buried.

Built in 1724 for a parish organized in 1712. The silver communion plate was given by Capt. John Bull in memory of his wife who was carried off by the Yamasee Indians in the uprising of 1715. Tombstones from the surrounding burial ground served as operating tables when the church was used as a hospital during the War between the States

Description:
The oldest church edifice in Charleston. Cornerstone was laid in 1752 and first services held in 1761. Clock and bells imported from England 1764. British forces took the bells to England as a Revolutionary War prize; later returned by a London merchant. Confederate forces used the steeple as a lookout post. Federal gunners used it as a point of aim during bombardment of 1863 and their shells landing in and around the church destroyed part of this beautiful landmark, Washington, Lee, La Fayette and other notables have worshipped here.

At Meeting and Tradd Streets is the edifice whose congregation was organized in 1731. Formed by twelve Scottish families, it united with the Presbyterian Church, U.S. in 1882. Present Sanctuary was built in 1814 and has been damaged by earthquake, tornado, hurricane and fire. Its wrought-iron work is notable.

First Congregational Church - Sometimes known as the "Two Horned Church" because of its twin towers, houses the oldest congregation in Marietta, Ohio. The first church, of frame construction, dedicated 1807, was destroyed by fire in 1905. On 1906 at the same spot, (318 Front St.), a new brick bld. of the same architectural design was erected. Only remnant used from the old church, is the bell in South tower of the new church.

Description:
The corner-stone of this of this church was laid in 1752. and first used for worship in 1761. In 1764 the famous bells and clock were imported from England. And the organ in 1768. part of which is incorporated in the present organ in the church. The bells were seized by Major Traille, as a perquisite of war, and shipped and sold in England, where they were purchased by a former Charleston Merchant, and shipped back again. This is a view looking down Meeting Street. towards the Ashley River.

While journeying through the snow-covered countryside on the outskirts of Frankenmuth, one may come to pass over the "Old Black Bridge" as Frankenmuthers refer to it. On the picture, this nostalgic construction from yesteryear creates a unique frame for St. Lorenz Lutheran Church, oldest Lutheran Church in Saginaw Valley, founded in 1845. Church steeple in 168 high, the cross an additional 54 inches. At night entire apparatus is lighted, which further enhances the view.
