The tufting industry was originated nearly 80 years ago by Catherine Evens Whitener who made the first chenille bedspread.

Prater's Mill, near Dalton, Georgia, was built of hand-hewn pine timbers in 1859 by Benjamin Franklin Prater. Three underwater turbines powered by the Coahulla Creek, turn the huge stones which grind corn and wheat. The mill is open to the public the second weekends in May and October for The Prater's Mill Country Fair.
