Description:
Havilah was the first county seat of Kern County in 1866 but was moved to Bakersfield in 1874. Bakersfield was named for Col. Thomas Baker, who arrived in 1862 to direct a reclamation project. He layed out the town in 1869. With the discovery of gold in the Kern river Canyon Bakersfield became a rough and tough camp as bad as any on the Mother Lode. in 1889 fire destroyed most of the old town; rebuilding resulted in a more modern town. Oil was found here in 1899 and this started another boom. Today great fields of cotton, potaotes and other farm products may be seen. Bakersfield is located at the southern end of the great San Joaquin Valley.

The southern Pacific Jail is an authentic building that was used to house lawbreakers who worked on the S.P. railhead when it was being constructed. Built in 1874, this structure was carried on a flatcar while the line was being constructed from Delano to Caliente.

Odd Fellows Lodge and Fraternal Hall. The Odd Fellows Lodge is a replica of the 1868 Lodge in havilah, the first county seat of kern. Contained within are many artifacts from the early days of lodge activities. The Fraternal hall contains a re-creation of early Fraternal events, complete with regalia and exhibits.

Description:
The Beale Memorial Clock Tower stood for nearly 50 years in the downtown Bakersfield intersection of Chester Avenue and Seventeenth. It was removed after being severely damaged in the earthquake of 1952. The tower which now stands beside the Kern County Museum is an exact replica, using some of the original components including clock and gong, metal work, and roof. At the extreme left is the entrance to the Museum's famous Pioneer Village.
