Architects Barber, Bones and Barber created a Victorian fantasy in brick and stone as a focal point to an exhuberant and optimistic city that was bursting with growth. Eventually, structural defects in its top floors ended its useful era. It was demolished in 1962 in spite of efforts to preserve it as part of Winnipeg's architectural heritage. It stood on the same site as Winnipeg's present Civic Centre complex
